The Process

Decontamination WashA surgical-grade hand wash that removes every trace of loose dirt before a machine ever touches the paint.
What happens
- pH-neutral snow-foam pre-soak lifts and carries away loose grit before anything touches the paint
- Two-bucket hand wash with grit guards, so dirty water never returns to the panel
- Iron remover dissolves the embedded brake dust a wash mitt can't pull out
- Blown dry and finished with plush microfiber: no water spots, no drag marks
Why it matters
Careless washing is where half of all swirl marks are born, so we treat the wash as the first step of correction, not a chore.
Clay Bar TreatmentShears off the bonded contamination a wash can't touch, leaving the surface glass-smooth.
What happens
- Every panel checked by touch; bonded contamination feels gritty through a plastic bag
- A lubricated clay bar shears off industrial fallout, tree sap, overspray, and rail dust
- Rechecked panel by panel until the surface is truly glass-smooth
Why it matters
Polishing over contamination grinds it deeper into the finish, so this step is never skipped.
Compound CorrectionThe corrective stage: machine compounding levels the clear coat to remove swirls, scratches, and oxidation.
What happens
- Paint inspected under raking light to map every swirl, scratch, and patch of oxidation
- Machine compound with diminishing abrasives levels the clear coat to the depth of the damage
- We cut only as deep as the defect requires, preserving clear coat for the life of the vehicle
Why it matters
This is the stage where defects actually leave the paint. Everything after it is refinement and protection.
Finishing PolishUltra-fine refinement that turns a corrected panel into a mirror.
What happens
- Ultra-fine polish clears the micro-marring and haze the cutting stage leaves behind
- Color deepens and gloss climbs to its maximum: the mirror finish
- Surface left perfectly refined for the ceramic coating to bond to

Ceramic Coating ApplicationA premium SiO₂ coating, leveled panel by panel, locks in the finish for years.
What happens
- Panel-prep wipe strips polishing oils so the ceramic bonds to bare clear coat
- SiO₂ coating applied panel by panel, flashed, and leveled by hand
- Cures into a hard hydrophobic layer that resists UV, chemicals, and road grime

Michael Watson is the hands behind every FluxCut detail. It started in his own garage: that black Charger in the photo is his, and it has never once left the driveway with a swirl in the paint. What began as an obsession with getting his own finish flawless turned into a craft. Reading a panel under raking light, knowing exactly how much clear coat to cut, and not calling a job done until the reflection is right.
Michael is a dad, electrical engineer, and New Haven local; his youngest already has the matching ride, and the same standards apply to both garages. How long does a detail take?
A Flux Refresh runs 6 to 8 hours depending on vehicle size. A Flux Signature correction takes 8 to 13 hours and can carry into a second day on larger or rougher paint. Michael confirms timing at your walk-around.
How long does the ceramic coating last?
FluxCut applies NanoBond SiO2 ceramic coating, rated for 3 years of protection at a 9H hardness level. How the car gets washed matters more than any other factor; the aftercare tips below cover it.
What happens right after the coating goes on?
Give it 24 hours before driving if possible, and keep it completely dry during those 24 hours. Wait 5 to 8 days before the first wash; hot days cure the coating faster, cold ones can need a little longer.
Do I need a Flux Refresh or a Flux Signature?
If your paint mostly lacks gloss but shows little visible damage, Refresh. If you can see swirls, spider-webbing in sunlight, or light scratches, Signature. Not sure? Send photos through the quote builder and Michael will steer you at the walk-around.
Why is the final quote set in person?
Photos hide as much as they show. Paint condition, prior repaint work, and clear-coat health all change what your vehicle needs, so every final number is set eye-to-paint at a walk-around. The builder's estimate is an honest starting point, not a bait number.
Why drop-off only?
Reading swirl depth and judging each cutting pass takes controlled shop lighting and stable conditions a driveway can't offer. Doing it right in one place beats doing it halfway in yours.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Take anything valuable out of the car. If you arrive with a fresh brushless wash, the surface is ready for clay bar treatment and you save on the price; select it in the quote builder.
Is there a warranty?
No formal warranty, and no fine print pretending otherwise. If anything about your detail isn't right, reach out; customer satisfaction is the number one priority, and Michael will make it right.
Vehicle Aftercare
A ceramic coating is tough, not invincible. A few habits keep the gloss and the water beading going for years.
The first 24 hours
Skip driving for the first 24 hours if you can, and keep the car completely dry while the coating sets.
First wash: 5 to 8 days out
The coating keeps curing for days. Hot weather cures it faster, cold weather can need a little longer, so give it 5 to 8 days before the first wash.
Skip the brush car wash
Spinning brushes are where swirl marks come from. Touchless washes are fine; a two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral soap is best.
Air dry or microfiber
Let it air dry or finish with a plush microfiber rag. Never drag a bath towel or squeegee across coated paint.
No wax needed
The coating is the protection. Wax adds nothing on top and can interfere with the water behavior you paid for.
